PD PWM controllers are categorized into two types: integrated package devices combining the controller and power switch, and controllers paired with external power switch tubes. This classification is designed to meet the power requirements of different PD products.
Unlike conventional adapter controllers, PD PWM controllers feature three key advantages:
1.A wide Vcc operating voltage range, such as 9V to 100V.
2.Higher operating frequency, which helps reduce the size of passive components.
3.Adoption of GaN HEMT MOSFETs, SiC MOSFETs and SJ MOSFETs as power switches in most cases, which enhances the conversion efficiency and power density of PD adapters while significantly reducing their overall size.
These features enable PD PWM controllers to provide charging and adapter functions for devices that comply with the PD protocol.
